Baby Pants Sewing Spree, Part 2

On the weekend before Maggie was born, I was inspired to sew a few more pairs of baby pants (I was also inspired to scrub the exterior of our dishwasher - nesting is intense!). Of course, I didn't get a chance to blog about these before Maggie surprised everyone by arriving on the scene two weeks early.

Baby Pants Spree, Part 2

From left to right, these are Knit Newborn Pants, Rae's Basic Newborn Pants (complete with adorable, useless pockets), and a pair of shorts and a pair of pants made from Rae's Big Butt Baby Pants pattern. Of course, it's the backside of the Big Butt Baby Pants that really steal the show.

Now that Maggie is here, you can see what Rae's Basic Newborn Pants look like on my teeny little peanut.

Newborn Baby Pants

She is barely 7 pounds now, and even "newborn" sized clothing is pretty roomy on her. Rae's Newborn Pants are no exception - they are pretty baggy! Same goes for the Knit Newborn Pants I made for her. They are a couple of inches too long. So all of my mama-mades are too big for this little mouse!

Intellectually, I know that Maggie won't be this tiny for very long. But my emotional side is telling me to make this teeny little girl some pants that will fit her right now! If I could just get a break between feedings, etc., to do a little sewing ...

(For those of you following our breastfeeding adventures, Maggie got her tongue-tie clipped on Wednesday, and thankfully, things seem to be much improved already. Now I just need to fatten this little girl up a bit!)

  1. Oh gosh, I'm so glad the tongue tie clipping went well! If only I'd known that about Charlie, poor dear starving, screaming bubba so long ago. The pants are adorable. And gotta love some useless baby pockets :D

  2. Ooh i love the deer and mushroom print! looks so cute with the red. and of course maggie is just precious :) I had the same issue with Elena (she was exactly the same weight and height at birth as Maggie btw) not fitting any of her newborn duds, all too big! She was swimming in them for awhile but it was nice since she could wear so much stuff for much longer. Glad things are looking up on the breastfeeding front I bet you'll be up and sewing in no time!

  5. Pants and baby are adorable!! I've always loved the look of Rae's Big Butt Baby Pants but my kids were too big when she released the pattern and I've never made them. If you ever need a surrogate sewer, let me know!

    1. Yeah, Joe was already in size 2T when the pattern came out, so I was in the same boat. I'm excited to make up for that now!

    1. Well, to be fair, I made this set of pants right before Maggie was born. So I'm not THAT amazing. Hee hee.

  8. How did the clipping go? Did she have to miss a feed?

Also I'm in the same boat but with long-sleeved shirts. I'm layering all her tiny clothes because that is all that fits and the shops are all starting to sell summer stuff! I can't find a plain white grey or black long-sleeved shirt for her anywhere!

Oh well, I'll just wait it out a few weeks and she'll fit something.. maybe..

    1. The clipping itself was really easy, but Maggie was a bit off her food for the day and a half that followed, which was a bit stressful for me because she is SO TINY. But after that, she recovered quickly and put on a good amount of weight, so I can relax now! Whew!

Yeah, I am not surprised it's hard to find gray or black t-shirts. EVERYTHING for girls seems to be pink! There's a whole heckavalot of pink out there, and not much else.
