Undies.

KCW Spring 2013 will go down in history as the year Inder sewed undies.

And quite possibly, nothing else.

This is one of these things. Everyone in the sewing blog universe has already gone through their "undies sewing period." Except me. And now I get it. These things are addictive! Sewing undies - it's my new "happy place." I might never sew anything else again. Sergity serge serge serge.

Undies - close-up

Since downloading the "That Darn Kat" pattern on Saturday, I've made ... *attempts to count on fingers ... gives up with a sigh* ....  a lot of undies. My sewing space looks like 500 pairs of undies exploded all over it. Which is close to what actually happened. These things are the bomb for actually using some of that "t-shirts for upcycling" pile that you may have been accumulating for the past several years (tell me I'm not the only one). So many possible color combinations!

And despite plans to sew a variety of clothes for my kids this KCW, it's quite possible that this will be it (meh, my kids don't really need clothes anyway). It is entirely possible that I will sew 600 more pairs, then completely burn out on sewing for months on end. Are they like Cheetos? Insanely delicious, followed by a sickening sensation like, "I'm not going to be able to stop eating these," followed by "uuuuuugggghhh"?

Only time will tell.

In the meantime, I'm taking orders from all my friends.

And here's Joe, in response to my request that he "look at the camera."

What's that all over his shirt? An ice cream cone. It was delicious.

The next few nights are packed and busy, so it's not likely much sewing will happen, KCW or no. But hopefully I'll get a little time later this week! Hope everyone is having a great week!

  1. Wow! That is an impressive row of undies! The more you sew the less often you will have to do laundry! This might seem weird but I'd love to know how the fit is, store bought briefs an be really wonky.

  2. So much colour;) I'm curious to know how the fit is too? The other two blogs that I follow that have made these were for girls so I'm wondering if the fit is comfortable for boys too. I'm tempted to try it out as your right, it's a great way to use up old tees and scrap knits.

    1. The size fours fit Joe perfectly! I just posted some photos. I haven't seen the other sizes on their intended recipients, but I'm really happy with how they look on Joe.

  3. Big like.... and yes, you're not the only one with a collection of upcycle t-shirts... i have two huge drawers full and i banned buying any fabric until not half of it is sewn up!

  4. Love them! I am yet to jump on the undie sewing bandwagon but I have a heap of knit fabric offcuts from other projects that are just waiting for the bug to bite. Sounds addictive!

    1. There are some cute boxer-briefs in the second to most recent Ottobre ... (yes, I caved and got a subscription). I know a lot of boys prefer boxer briefs, although I live with tighty-whitey men. ;-)

I almost took the plunge with undie sewing a couple of months ago as Lucy has undie 'issues', but it was resolved with some new RTW ones....but maybe I should try them after all....
    Great pics of Joe!

  10. I love seeing them all in a line like that! I bought this pattern ages ago and never used it. I just need to add it back on my list now!

  11. My kids LOVE these undies. I'm sad they only go to size 8 as I think I'll need bigger next time.
